San Diego Fire: Center Fire Burns Seven Acres, Evacuation Orders Lifted
On Wednesday morning, a wildfire dubbed the “Center Fire” or “Bernardo Fire” ignited in the Rancho Bernardo area of San Diego, prompting evacuations in nearby neighborhoods. However, as of 3:15 p.m., all evacuation orders and warnings have been lifted.
Cause and Location
The fire's origin is still under investigation, but it was first reported near Bernardo Center Drive and Camino Del Norte, close to Interstate 15. Homes in the area were immediately threatened by the blaze.
Firefighting Efforts
The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department received the initial call around 8:55 a.m. Firefighters arrived on the scene shortly after 9 a.m. and were able to contain the forward spread of the fire to four acres by 11 a.m. By 1:25 p.m., the fire had burned a total of seven acres.
Evacuations and Road Closures
Evacuation orders were initially issued for areas from Dove Canyon Road to the west, Camino Del Norte to the north, I-15 to the east, and Carmel Mountain Road to the south. Evacuation warnings extended as far as Black Mountain Open Space Park to the south and Camino Del Sur to the west and north.
Road closures were also implemented on Camino Del Norte and I-15 at Camino Del Norte, Bernardo Center, Paseo Montanoso at Avenida De Los Lobos, and Camino Del Norte.
Casualties and Damages
One person was reportedly taken to the hospital with burn injuries. No other injuries or fatalities have been reported.
